Meet Canela

Canela is a 1.5-year-old 58-pound red husky with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Her foster family likes to joke that she's about 60% husky and 40% cat—playful, curious, independent, and exceptionally talented at finding the best spot in the house for a nap.

Canela has a wonderfully classic husky personality. She's intelligent, independent, and full of character. While she enjoys attention, belly rubs, and spending time with her people, she's not overly clingy or demanding of affection. She's happiest when she can be part of the action while still maintaining her independence. She enjoys companionship but doesn't need constant attention, often choosing to lounge nearby, supervise household activities, or simply do her own thing. When she seeks out affection, its because she genuinely wants it, which makes those moments all the more special.

One of Canelas best qualities is her balance of energy and relaxation. She loves to play, run, wrestle, explore, and be silly, but she's equally content spending much of the day snoozing, lounging, and recharging. She's the perfect mix of adventure buddy and laid-back housemate.

Canela is currently living with two male dogs and has done wonderfully in a multi-dog home. She would thrive in a home with another playful dog and is not recommended as an only pet. She truly enjoys having canine companionship and benefits from having dog friends to play, explore, and relax with. Her ideal match would be a dog around her size or slightly smaller who enjoys wrestling, chasing, and active play.

While Canela can happily coexist with other dogs, she's selective about her friendships and appreciates having her personal space respected. If another dog gets too pushy or ignores her signals, she may give a quick correction to communicate her boundaries, but she has never escalated beyond that. When she finds a dog she genuinely likes, she forms strong bonds and loves having a canine companion by her side.

She is also cat-friendly and has shown little to no prey drive, which is a wonderful trait for a young husky. Because of her playful style, she can be a little mouthy during wrestling games with other dogs. For that reason, a home without very young children would likely be the best fit, although she has shown absolutely no aggression toward people.

Canela is highly food-motivated and eager to learn. She has shown no signs of resource guarding and enjoys all kinds of toys, especially anything that squeaks or crinkles. Like many huskies, she's expressive, but in her own way. Rather than dramatic husky conversations, Canela tends to communicate with little whines, squeaks, and crying noises when she's excited, anticipating something fun, or feeling unsure. Once you get to know her, its easy to tell exactly what she's trying to say.

A true adventurer at heart, Canela is in the car almost daily and loves being included in outings with her people. Whether its a hike, a trail walk, a trip to explore somewhere new, or simply tagging along for the day, she's always excited for the next adventure. She now rides comfortably in the car and has become an excellent travel companion. She also enjoys exploring off-leash with her trusted pack and has demonstrated reliable recall in appropriate settings.

Canela is currently about 90% potty trained and continues to improve every week. At the moment, she strongly prefers going potty on grass and while off-leash, but she is making excellent progress and is well on her way to becoming fully reliable as she gains more experience and consistency.

Canela is looking for a home that will continue helping her grow into the incredible dog she's becoming. She will thrive with adopters who can provide structure, consistency, and positive guidance while continuing to build her confidence through new experiences, adventures, and socialization. Canela enjoys having the freedom to express her independent spirit and would love a lifestyle that includes opportunities to explore, make new friends, and enjoy outdoor adventures.
